The KLIA Cogeneration Plant has been planned to produce chilled water at 6℃ for KLIA facilities which comprise core and privatized facilities. The excess electricity generated from the cogeneration system will also be supplied to KLIA facilities. In phase 1 (1997) and phase 2 (2012) the plant will have a total installed cooling capacity of 35,000RT. The cogeneration plant utilizes a combination of Gas Turbine Generation (2 x 20MW) with Heat Recovery Steam Generators, standby Auxiliary Gas Boilers (2 x 25 ton/hr) and Steam Absorption Chillers of capacity of 2,500RT per unit. The waste heat evolved from the gas turbine is to produce steam for the steam absorption chillers to produce chilled water & condenser water. The project involved the complete design and erection of the cogeneration/district cooling plant, chilled water loop reticulation including valve chambers and 33/11kV.
